Rogue Lawman

ebook

Gideon Hawk hunts the depraved outlaw Pima Miller into the Superstition Mountains of Arizona Territory. Hawk inadvertently shot Miller's woman, but the killer doesn't seem to mind. He leaves his infant son behind and heads into the mountains with his beautiful young guide, Jodi Zimmerman, whom he's kidnapped from the Superstition Stage Relay Station. Hawk, however, minds very much that his bullet meant for Miller struck an innocent woman. He storms after Miller with his usual bloodlust. But the Superstitions are no picnic. The Apaches call the range their Thunder God's abode, and the Chiricahuas don't care for interlopers. And neither does the strange old desert rat known as the Dutchman, who will do everything he can to keep his secret stash of ancient Apache gold a secret.

Bonus Story Featuring the Rio Concho Kid: Blood and Lust in Old Mexico: The Rio Concho Kid must save a young Mexican girl from the savage intentions of the lusty General Constantine San Gabriel, who forced her into marriage, and the infamous bounty killer known only as El Leproso...the Leper!

Gideon Hawk, the rogue lawman, lost his wife and child to ruthless killers and became the scourge of all evildoers, including bad lawmen. The notorious Pima Miller is his latest quarry. Hawk follows Miller into the Superstition Mountains, where the legendary Dutchman's Mine is supposedly located, as well as a band of fierce Chiricahua, led by none other than Geronimo. Along the way, there are plenty of desirable women, who appear out of nowhere, it seems, to satisfy both Miller and Hawk. Hawk has little redeeming virtue, other than he only kills those who deserve killing, but Brandvold's pulplike novella is action-packed, and he renders his southwestern landscape vividly. Bound in with the tale is a novelette, Blood and Lust in Old Mexico, featuring the Rio Concho Kid. The Kid is a similar character to Hawk in that his family was killed, and he in turn has killed many bad men, but he has a streak of decency and comes to the rescue of a beautiful girl. The Kid will soon appear in his own book-length adventure. For western fans who don't mind a little noir on the range.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
